Have you ever met someone who could get you to do anything ? I have. And I have always wished to acquire this ability where I could make people to agree with my point of view or comply with my request.

Of course, it will be easier to kidnap somebody, point a gun to his head and make him agree. Unfortunately that is against the law.

MANTRA-1 : SWITCH THE ROLES.

The trick is to ask him or her to move into your shoes and see things from your point of view. You could ask a question, “if you were to face this situation what would you do ?” Or ‘If we do this what do you think would be the implications for us both?

Before you know it, he or she will start coming up with the SAME arguments that YOU were planning to speak. This now makes your task much easier to get a YES.

MANTRA-2 : APPEAL TO THE SOUL.

Most people believe that they are a good soul and have good sanskars. Hence if we can appeal to their noble feelings and kind heart we can convince them to follow our ideas. Here are some examples.

A Gym owner would normally say to a new customer “ If you join our gym you will build a great body.” But he could appeal to the soul by saying “ If you join the Gym it will make you healthier and live longer. You will then be able to play more with your grand children and be a companion to your wife in her old age”.
If you are a Car salesman then you could say “Sure I could sell you a cheaper car but if you are going to be driving around your WIFE and KIDS then you would want the SAFEST car. That is why I am recommending this car”.

MANTRA-3 : POWER OF THE REASON.

Remember that the other person is always thinking “WHY should I agree. I see no reason to do so.” Hence, we must always attach a solid reason to our request or demand.

A research was done in a University where people had to make a queue to photocopy since there was only one photocopy machine. This is what people did to jump the queue. One person said “Can I please go ahead BECAUSE I am in a hurry to attend my class.” People allowed him. The other person said “Excuse me. Can I go ahead BECAUSE I have to photocopy my documents.” This was a silly request because everybody was in the queue for the same purpose. But only 7% people objected. 93% people did not react for his jumping the queue.

The question is why did this work ? The research said that our brain is lazy. When you hear a request WITH a reason, the brain gets an easy way out to agree with that request rather than struggle to figure out whether request was legitimate or not.
