Happiness is the final goal of life. Who cares about money and fame when you are not happy? Who cares about good health if you are lonely and depressed? Today I am going to share FOUR Super Sutras of happiness. They will help in solving that riddle of “How To Be Happy”. Before the Super Sutras, let me answer another question “Are there different types of happiness” ?
There must be. Because in this cartoon the person is trying to collect all types of happiness into a single dose. So, how do we categorize the various types of happiness moments in life.
It can be very useful to know because it will help us not to confuse true happiness with what happiness is NOT. There are certainly two broad types of Happiness.
Type-I is the Fun Moments Of life which last for a short period of time only. Type-II is Long Lasting Happiness. This provides deep rooted internal based happiness and lasts even after the fun moments are gone.
Here Is An Interesting Look At Both Type-I And Type-II Of Happiness.
Here are some Type-I ie fun moments of happiness. Newly married, bought things like Car, mobile etc. One certainly gets a “HIGH” or a spike of happiness during these fun moments.
But here is the other side of the coin.
There is scientific research to prove that once the fun moment passes the happiness linked to it also fades away within a short period. Honeymoon period lasts for 2-years. New mobile gives happiness for one week. In short, fun moments are “temporary” happiness.
Most people think that fun and happiness is the same thing. Wrong – as we will just learn. Let us now look at Type-II ie the long lasting happiness. This is the real one because it revolves around concepts which create deep rooted feelings of contentment, satisfaction and well-being.
The Type-II of happiness is based on these FOUR SUPER SUTRAS of happiness. These really are the roadmap to happiness in life. Spend 1-HOUR with family with UNDIVIDED attention. Go out with friends at least ONCE month. Participate in a Group Hobby at least ONCE a month. It should be in a physical Group and not online or alone. Attend a Satsang at least ONCE a month. Notice that this is not a hairy-fairy advice but very specific activities. These are not temporary fun moments but a permanent journey of life.
These are moments of life from which you can continue to derive pleasure all your life – without trying to seek those “fun moments” constantly.
As we know now, fun and pleasures are not the same thing as lasting happiness. The secret of happiness is the balance between fun moments and long lasting happiness way of life. It is not an either or situation. Both are needed. The key is to find the balance.
If you were to ask me, I would like to derive 80% of my happiness from the FOUR SUPER SUTRAS of happiness and only 20% from fun moments. But this is a very personal thing. Everybody can decide what they think is the best balance for them.
