Do you know how many friends you will have, when you will have them and who will they be ? This has a direct link to what type of personality you have and at what stage of life you are. You will enjoy this as I am going to explain the FOUR types of personalities and FOUR stages of life which will decide who will be your friend and at what time of your life.

Let me do a re-cap from one of my previous Videos where I had explained the research of Dr Robin Dunbar who did an extensive research on the number of friends one can have in a lifetime.  Dr  Dunbar concluded that there is a limit on the number of friends with whom we can maintain a MEANINGFUL relationship ie one which we would not like to lose.

These are called “Dunbar Numbers. Most people have just 15 people in their whole lifetime whom they can call their closest companions. These are people we meet most frequently and with whom we can share our private thoughts.

There are two crucial  factors which affect your journey of friendship in your life. One, what type of personality you are. And the second, what stage of life you are at. Let us first look at what type of social personality you are. There are mainly FOUR types.

Type-1 are those people who are content to just sit and be by themselves.

Type-2 is one who needs to be constantly busy and engaged in doing multiple activities.

Type-3 are the people who like to spend time one-on-one with those who are close to them.

Type-4 are the ones  who prefer groups and like to get everyone together in one big gathering.

Now, you should be able to identify as to what type you are. But there is one more factor  ie what stage of life you are at. Let us see what happens as we grow up.

Stage-1 is as a child. Besides mommy &  daddy they do meet other children but the level of emotional closeness is much less with them.

Stage-2 is young adulthood, ie teenage years and till the late twenties. Here  we have the largest social circle of our lifetime as we have maximum energy and opportunity to meet people.

Stage-3 is the 50s & 60s. Here, our free time shrinks and we start having less number of close friends.

Stage-4 is when reach our older age. There is a strong chance that by now we would have drifted away from many friends. Well, people move away and also life happens.

This video has given tips for you to identify what type of person you are and at what stage of life. You also know that you can NOT make everybody in the world a friend. Now just identify
2-3 friends of YOUR type and at similar STAGE of life. And put all your time and effort in nurturing these friendships. Because these are the only meaningful relationships that you can have at any point of time in life.

As time passes by, you want to ensure that the friends you made by hard work or by good luck do not ESCAPE – as this cartoon shows. Good luck to you. That’s all for now. Till we meet again.
